DIY Boat for Kids – Fun with Balloons and Water

I love finding materials around our home to make toys and use for science experiments. It is an excellent way to recycle and make good use of what you have. My son has adopted the habit of recycling items like water bottles, plastic tubes, paper towels and toilet paper rolls. He puts them in our science drawer. Surprisingly, we don’t have trouble finding fun projects to do with these materials like the DIY Boat for Kids.

This week we are showing you how to use household items to make a DIY boat for kids. The best thing about this project is it involves water and balloons, which are two of my son’s favorites. The DIY boat for kids incorporates the science of using wind to make the boat move.

You only need the following ingredients…

While doing this experiment, my son and I discussed how the air in your lungs is used to provide energy for the boat. You may also introduce your child to Newton’s third law of motion which states for every action, there is an equal and opposite action. Our DIY boat for kids is a great example of this law because it moves forward by the air pushing the water backwards.

This boat also makes a bubbly motor sound in the water, which your kids will love. The best part of this activity is it is easy and fun to do.

If your child is like my son, they will want to activate the boat repeatedly.

Watch the video below to see how it is done.

Fun Numbers Activity for Kids – Slime Hide and Seek Challenge

Want a fun numbers activity for kids? Look no further, I will share one with you in this post.

My son and I love to make up games to play. I personally like adding an educational component to these games to make learning fun. While playing games, my son loves to compete and it creates motivation for him to understand new concepts.

Games also accommodate the three basic types of learners which are sight learners, audio learners, and kinesthetic learners. Kids are often using sight, hearing, and touch when playing games.

This week we played and created the Slime Hide and Seek NUMBERS Challenge.

This game is great for teaching and reviewing number recognition and place values with your children. About two weeks before playing this game, we found an easy three-ingredient slime recipe that my son loves. Therefore, we thought it would be fun to incorporate it into our game.

We love this activity because it includes the science of making slime from scratch and the mathematical concept of numbers. Additionally, the friendly competition games encourage is always exciting!

The video below shows you how to play the game. We played three rounds and each one gets harder as you progress. Watch the whole video to find out who won (my son or I).

Your kids will have a blast playing the game! We hope you enjoy it!

Cool Foam Experiment For Kids – Fun and Easy

Many kids love science experiments where there are mild explosions or something is changing dramatically. My son, Cory, loves the Coke and Mentos and Magic Balloon experiments because of this fact. The experiment I will show you today is a cool foam experiment for kids which is Cory’s second favorite science activity. His favorite one is the Colorful Egg Drop Experiment, which I must admit is pretty amazing.

Today’s activity is a cool foam experiment for kids that is fun and easy to do. Your kids will love the mild explosion it creates. It is officially called Elephant Toothpaste. This activity encourages children to mix kitchen ingredients to create a foam that oozes out of its container.

The ingredients needed for this experiment are…

How Plants Get Their Water | Awesome Celery Experiment for Kids

Summer is here and it is the perfect time to go outside to play. It is also a great time to go on nature trails to see animals, plants, and flowers. My son and husband love to work in our garden in the backyard. They have a feeling of pride when they see vegetables arrive during the summer months.

I love to make connections with what my son is experiencing. Since he has been working in the garden, I wanted to show him how plants get their water through an awesome celery experiment for kids. He has done this experiment before. However, we did it again because it is one of his favorite experiments and it is fun to do. Also, it is a wonderful refresher on science vocabulary such as gravity and capillary action.

How To Make A Volcano At Home – Fun and Easy

Summer is here and kids are playing outside. However, during certain parts of the day, it can be unbearable to be outside because of the heat. It is very hot outside during these times. Therefore many parents are looking for indoor activities for their children. Doing hands-on projects inside the home is a great alternative to watching electronics all day.

Today my son and I will show you how to make a volcano at home. We were learning about rocks made from volcanos. My son thought it would be fun to create our own volcano, which is what we did.

Like most of our projects, it is easy and fun to do. You most likely have all the ingredients in your kitchen for this project.

I will admit that I should have made my son wear goggles while doing this project. Please ensure your kids are wearing eye protection while making the lava for the volcano.

How To Make A Homemade Bottle Rocket – Fun, Easy, and Awesome!

As mentioned in last week’s post, my son requested that we experiment with various types of DIY rockets. He has become accustomed to our family doing fireworks on July 4th on the blacktop near our home. He thought homemade rockets would be a great addition to our tradition.

Last week, my son showed you via video how to make a simple Cup Rocket. He loved the response received from doing this project. This was extra motivation to build another type of rocket. We created our rocket from scratch and it successfully flew across the parking lot.

This rocket uses three simple ingredients that you probably have in your home. It is a great addition to your home science experiments and DIY projects.

Fun Color Activity for Preschoolers, Kindergartners, and up – Awesome Outdoor Adventure

Every night before my son goes to bed, we read a book. Currently my son is interested in chapter books. The book series we are reading is called George Brown Class Clown. In one of the books, George’s school has Field Day. This day is filled with friendly competitive games and fun among the students.

One Field Day event required the kids to be in nature identifying objects of certain colors. My son liked this activity and requested to do it the next day.

Once the next day arrived, my son was ready to go on his nature and color adventure.

This is a great activity to help kids learn and review colors. Try it at home!

My son, Corban is going to show you how to do the activity in the video below. You can do this activity with one child or many children. You can create a friendly competition by placing multiple children in teams.

DIY Bubble Soap – Create Bubbles Inside Bubbles for Kids

Wonderful Time of the Year

Spring is here and this is a time for bubbles! The first time my son, Cory, saw bubbles he was a baby. He was so amazed at how they floated in the air and then disappeared (popped). Once he started to walk, Cory had a great time chasing the bubbles and popping them.

Now that my son is older, he likes to experiment with various types of bubbles. We don’t buy bubble solution from the store anymore because we make our own with various ingredients. We have made Giant Bubbles, small bubbles, Bubble Pipes, Unpoppable Bubbles etc.

My son wanted to do something new. He decided to create DIY Bubble Soap with layers on our dining room table. I didn’t know if it would work; however, it turned out to be a success.

Try this activity with your children. They will find joy in first, creating a bubble on a table. Then, they will be amazed at how they can create bubble layers. It became a fun challenge for my son.

This is a great science project for kids. They will see how three ingredients can be mixed together to create the bubbles one usually purchases in stores or online.

Sink Or Float Experiment For Kids – Amazing Results

Enhancing Your Child’s Learning

Many people become interested in this blog because my son learned to read, write, and do math (such as multiplication) at the age of three. However, we share a lot of science experiments with our audience.

The reason is that science experiments can enhance children’s vocabulary more so than formal reading lessons. When doing science experiments, children are experiencing hands-on learning and various words such as speed, inertia, chemical reaction etc. When they are following the instructions to a science experiment that are performing actions with new vocabulary.

For example, when my son and I did the Walking Water Science Experiment he learned and reviewed words such as capillary action and gravity. He also saw and experienced these words in action while doing the experiment.

Sink or Float Experiment

Today I want to share with you a simple and fun activity called the Sink or Float Experiment. It is a great way to introduce your kids to scientific words such as gravity, column, test, observe, and layer.

We like this experiment because you can use liquids you have in your kitchen. Your child will use these liquids to create three layers or columns in a glass. Then they will observe and test the density of various objects in your home.

Kids have the most fun testing the density of their toys and food in your kitchen.

My son, Corban, made a video that will show you how to do the Sink or Float Experiment. This video comes from his YouTube Channel, Corban’s Fun Learning Adventures. Please like and subscribe to support the channel and for fun activities for kids.

We hope your kids enjoy this experiment!
